Enforcement revenues – the monies we get from our collection, examination,
and document matching activities – increased by 10% to a record $47.3
billion.
Total individual
returns audited increased by over 20% in 2004.
Audits of individuals with incomes over $100,000 surpassed 221,000, the
highest figure in 10 years, double what it was four years ago.
Audits of small businesses -
17,867 were completed in 2005 against 7,294 a year earlier.
Seizures have increased from last year.

Additional Facts:
In 2004, the Justice Department's Tax Division sought prosecutions of 1,381
defendants for various tax crimes - a 58 percent increase from the 877
cases it pursued in 2001.
The American Jobs Creation Act signed by President George W. Bush, requires the IRS to turn over some collection activity to
contracted private debt collection agencies who will be paid 25% of what
they collect.
At more than 115,000 people, the IRS has more employees than Microsoft and Intel
combined! On top of this, they're actively recruiting and hiring more!
