A very long time ago, the standard by which most web developers measured appropriate page size, was twenty (20) seconds at 56 mbps (dial-up modem speed). At some point along the way, I began ignoring dial-up speed altogether. In fact, I began a process of focusing more on the content rather than the load speed. Google's Webmaster Tools caught my attention when I noticed that Google would give preference to pages that loaded faster.
