If you are interested in "search trends", there are several sources of information out there. The one that I most often use is "Trends" on Google. Google dominates internet searches. You can "Drill down" your analysis with filters by categories, geography, time periods and more! With Google Insights for Search, you can create and add a gadget to your iGoogle page and track search trends automatically updated daily! How much easier can it get? For example; I'm interested in Tax and Accounting search trends in the United States over the last 30 days.
When you are involved in a business selling goods or services to the public, it helps to know what the public is looking for. The thing about the internet and search trends is this, things change rapidly. Shifts in search trends occur most frequently in unison with news events. I took my search from the chart above and checked to see how searches that included the word "tax" broke down by state and noticed that people in Minnesota were performing the most searches related to "tax" in the last thirty days. It just so happens that there are a couple of news stories about the IRS investigating churches in Minnesota. |
